Leeds Art Gallery and Education
Leeds City Art Gallery Education Service aims to raise interest and awareness of visual art by enabling as many people as possible to use and enjoy the gallery's resources. Art, Artists and Art Galleries are explored through gallery related activities which emphasise links between every day life, cultural diversity, a sense of wonder and lifelong learning.
The Education Service can offer: art education
Education workpacks, leaflets, family activities, equipment, information, ideas and advice.
Themed Workshops linked to exhibitions or gallery collections aim to involve people of all ages and abilities in innovative and challenging activities. Limited in number, they are led by freelance artists and writers and are publicised through internal mailing.
Short Artist Residencies targeting community groups unfamiliar with the gallery and its facilities aim to build confidence through discussing and making art.
Support with self-led workshops recognises that group leaders are the best people to introduce the gallery. Support is via consultation and curriculum advice. Ideas, organisation, equipment and materials can be provided.
Gallery introductions led by Education Staff are based around the gallery's collections and exhibitions and investigate through structured themes and activities.
