In and around the city of Leeds there are huge numbers of accessible to the public, un-recorded objects of art. We have set out our mission to photograph and record as much of this as is possible within the pages of our website, we aim to photograph, research and record accurate information specific to each piece and the artist. We plan to produce a definitive online archive of these works, making them accessible to a wider audience and for the first time create a central point where anyone with access to the internet can visit and research from a reliable source.
First you will need to be enthusiastic about art, photography and research, images are essential for most of the articles, but there are is also potential for publishing research articles that are stored in the database and are used by people carrying out research within our site. Research articles can also be found by following the dynamic links which appear on many of the pages within the site.
You do not need to be either a highly skilled photographer, nor own the best and most expensive equipment. As an example, the images for THE ARTICLE: Both Arms by: William Kenneth Armitage were produced using a Canon Powershot A300 Compact camera.
Equally important is the ability to record as much accurate information as possible. The exact location of any piece, details from any plaque or noticeboard. Keeping in mind that our mission is to record and present an archive - you are encouraged to produce as much researched information as is available to you.
Essential is the ability and willingness to write your own articles, this can be a short commentary or a review accompanying your images, but it can also be a well researched academic paper. Presenting your opinion is encouraged within the confines of both what is legal and decent.
Please keeping in mind that this is not an exercise to just publish photos, we are not building a theme specific photo gallery, images without commentary are not useful to this mission.
When you apply to be a volunteer photographer / researcher, we will contact you requesting that you submit two images for consideration. The subject in the images you submit is not important.
Your images will be reviewed by the photography team admin, after which we will contact you. Please be aware, because we are all volunteers... we do our very best to produce speedy responses, but from time to time there may be delays in getting back to you. You will not be ignored and your patience is much appreciated.
When your application is approved, we will contact you advising on how to proceed.
We do not produce a list of assignments for our volunteer photographers, instead we leave this entirely up to you to seek out and record whatever information you can in your own free time.
Please note: All support is provided in the Editor Forum. We are unable to answer questions sent in via email.
When you are approved as a Volunteer Editor, you will have access to the Editor Forum. This is a private Editor's Only Forum - accessible to Editors via your login. Inside there are a number of tutorials plus a downloadable guide describing how to add your own photos and articles. There are also a number of threads into which you can post any questions you may have.
